Lingfield Tips: Ascot Day
Handicapper given him a chance with a mark of 82 and turn of foot should be seen to even better effect away from the Fibresand.
The 3.05 Lingfield is a class 2 handicap in name but with nothing close to being rated in three figures it’s more like a class 3 contest. That brings the likes of Ascot Day into play off a mark of 82.
Last time out he won a 6f maiden at Southwell but in a very un-Southwell manner. Tracking the pace, he quickened up off a moderate gallop. Unusual because the Fibresand suits those grinding it out from the front.
Ascot Day was 0.69s quicker than anything else over the final 3f and displayed a turn of foot that is normally better suited to the Polytrack/Tapeta. I’m therefore not concerned by the switch in surface today, nor the drop in trip. She’s got plenty of speed and might be a little better than his current rating.
