Post Ascot Targets

Targets After Ascot

We look at the big winners and losers from Royal Ascot and their targets for the rest of the season.

Queen Anne winner – Canford Cliffs
Richard Hannon said the horse was his best in 40 years, he’s almost certainly correct; Canford Cliffs defeated supermare Goldikova in one of the races of the week. Next on the agenda is a possible meeting with Frankel in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. Finishing the season in a rematch with Goldikova at the Breeders Cup.

Canford Cliff is evens to win the Sussex Stakes

St James’s Palace winner – Frankel
There was much criticism of the ride Tom Queally gave him but thankfully Frankel’s record is unblemished. His next race is likely to be outside his age group with the mouth-watering clash in the Sussex Stakes.

Frankel is 11/8 to win the Sussex Stakes

Coventry winner – Power
An aptly named horse that impressed with his physique in the Coventry. Unbeaten as a two-year-old his long term target is the 2000 Guineas, where he is the bookies’ favourite.

Power is 14/1 to win the 2000 Guineas

Prince Of Wales winner – Rewilding
Another excellent race, Rewilding chased down So You Think in a thrilling finish. He reportedly needs time between his races and is being aimed for the King George at the end of July.

Rewilding is 9/2 to win the King George

Prince Of Wales runner up – So You Think
Suffered his first European defeat at Royal Ascot when turned over as 4/11 favourite. Aiden O’Brien admits it was trainer error as the horse got tired in the last furlong. He is being aimed at the Coral Eclipse followed by a tilt at the Arc.

So You Think is 13/8 to win the Coral Eclipse

Ascot Gold Cup winner – Fame And Glory
Pundits were worried about his stamina but Fame And Glory stamped his class all over the Gold Cup. A three length winner, Aiden O’Brien has found the successor to Yeats.

Fame And Glory is 3/1 to win the 2012 Ascot Gold Cup

King Edward winner – Nathaniel
John Gosden’s runner relished the trip and the soft ground to win by a comfortable margin. The St. Leger looks like the ideal race and he is installed as favourite.

Nathaniel is 3/1 to win the St. Leger

Chesham winner – Maybe
Aiden O’Brien has the favourite in both English Guineas after Maybe was pushed out under hands and heels to win the Chesham. Full of potential, she still has a long way to go.

Maybe is 10/1 to win the 1000 Guineas
