Play It Cool
Cool Beans set an overly strong gallop on his last two starts but his running style is suited to the Fibresand.
Cool Beans was beaten out of sight at Wolverhampton on his last start but he simply set an unsustainable gallop over a trip that possibly stretched his stamina. In truth, we don’t know if he stays 12f and that is the risk we face in the 4.00 Southwell but he got 11f at the track so I’m chancing that extra furlong.
Two starts back, his first in 6 months, he was unfortunate to bump into he heavily gambled Mazovian. Again, his jockey set a searching gallop (95.5% finishing speed vs. par of 100.7%) but he just set the race up for the favourite to come from off the pace.
Cool Beans was legless at the finish, a combination of the pace and lay-off but he beat everything else around him bar the favourite.
If he returns to that level of form and crucially if Rob Hornby can conserve some energy for the finish then he could win at 6/1 (William Hill).
