Only horse to sustain a suicidal pace after a three-way battle for the lead at Southwell. Is much better than the bare form.
On the face of it, Sooqaan has been harshly treated after a 5lb hike for his second place at Southwell but that underestimates the magnitude of his performance.
Sooqaan got involved in a three-way battle for the lead and set a furious gallop. The finishing speed was 98.8% of the average race speed which indicates a very strong pace, verging on a pace collapse.
Sooqaan was only beaten a neck, whilst his fellow pace setters were beaten 7.25 and 13.5 lengths respectively, only to bounce back on their next start.
The horses in question Pearl Ransom and Al Muheer improved next time by 15lbs & 37lbs according to Racing Post Ratings.
Sooqaan’s performance therefore deserves a massive upgrade, in excess of what the handicapper has done.
He is a previous course and distance winner and after a well-earned rest, he looks the one to beat.
