Newmarket Tips: Long Awaited

Looked an exciting sprinter when winning at Doncaster and worth forgiving subsequent defeats.

The 4.40 Newmarket looks a weak race for the grade; but the two most exciting horses in the field have struggled recently, making the race more complex than it should be.

Pearl Blue looked a decent sprinter in the making when a winner at Doncaster; however, she has struggled to recapture her form since. She was well beaten on her last two starts on ground that should have suited. A possible excuse is that both races were over 6f, whilst he last win was over 5f, however she looked beaten before her stamina gave way.

The horse I’m more happy to forgive is Long Awaited. He also looked an exciting sprinter when winning at Doncaster on his seasonal reappearance only to flop on his next two starts.

His defeat at Epsom on Derby Day could be down to the firm ground and sharp track. Everything seemed to be happening too quickly for him that day and he suffered interference in a rough race.

Last time out at York he ran as if something was amiss and was practically pulled up. Perhaps the horse suffers from some physical ailment, which would explain why he is so lightly raced despite being 4-years-old.

At 12/1 (Betfred) I’m happy to take the chance on his well-being because at his best he can win this race.
