Newmarket Tips: High Standing
Had been working back to his best form until pulling a muscle at Royal Ascot. Big chance if over his injury.
Former Wokingham and Group 3 winner, High Standing has not enjoyed much luck this season. A combination of draw and pace biases, plus interference has ruined his races.
After showing a glimmer of his old self over course and distance back in early July, I duly backed him for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. He ran an absolute stinker trailing in 25th but it later transpired that he pulled a muscle during the race.
There is a chance that High Standing will never rediscover his former glories, but he has conditions to suit in the 3.25 Newmarket. He will enjoy the strong pace and the uphill finish; rain wouldn’t be an inconvenience either. In a tight contest he is the value at 16/1 (Paddy Power).
