Newmarket Tip: Frederick Engels

A winner at Royal Ascot and crying out for a step up in trip.

Frederick Engels was impressive at Royal Ascot and you want him on your side in the 1.50 at Newmarket.

The David Brown two-year-old proved his fast time at Musselburgh was no fluke when he followed it up in the Windsor Castle at the Royal meeting. For a period it looked like the 9/4 favourite wasn’t getting there, but as the leaders started to tire he finished with a powerful run to triumph by two lengths.

Throughout the race he looked like a six furlong horse struggling to go the gallop over the minimum. He crossed the line full of running and I agree with the trainer who thinks the step up in trip will benefit him.

A 9/4 shot when winning a 24-runner race, he is the same price with only six opponents today. Granted the likes of Roman Soldier and Church Music are good horses, but surely this is no more difficult than his last assignment.
