Newmarket Tip: Caledonia Lady
Finished a head behind Shumoos at Royal Ascot but four times the price.
I cannot understand why Caledonia Lady is four times the price of Shumoos in the 2.25 at Newmarket. Both horses raced in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, with Shumoos only better off by a head.
If you watch a replay of the race there is a strong case to consider Caledonia Lady unlucky. She was hampered on leaving the gates, losing a couple of lengths. Then, when making her challenge she had to switch round horses, again losing half a length in the process. Everything considered I rate her above Shumoos.
The reason she is 14/1, is because she is still a maiden and went off at 100/1 at Ascot. I’m sure the horse takes no notice of those statistics! If you take her last performance at face value, she has a great chance.
