Newbury Horse Racing Tip: Double Ross

All he does is jump and stay. The combination of trip and soft ground play to his strengths.

It is a risky proposition taking on the unbeaten Fingal Bay in the 3.05 at Newbury, but odds of 1/3 (Bet365) in very soft ground doesn’t strike me as value. He may win at a canter but he is still relatively inexperienced and youngster can make mistakes.

If the favourite runs below par then Double Ross is best placed to capitalise. He was a wide margin winner on his last start in similarly testing conditions at Folkestone. He probably didn’t beat much that day but all he does is jump, gallop and stay. Good attributes when faced by 2m5f in soft ground at Newbury.

This is a massive step up in grade but he has recorded two good speed ratings in a row, including when fifth in a hot race at Ascot. At 25/1 with Bet365 we can afford to play him each way with ¼ odds for a top two finish.
