Craftsmanship returned from a 5-month break to win a strongly run contest over a mile and faces a similar challenge on turf.

Robert Eddery does well with his small string of horses, winning good prize money every year and he could pick up a decent pot in the 2.15 Doncaster. The Newmarket trainer saddles two in the race but it’s the less fancied runner that catches the eye.

Craftsmanship had previously looked exposed but ran close to a career best when winning at Chelmsford last time.

Returning from a five-month lay-off, he showed no ill effects to finish the race strongly and win by 3.75 lengths. The true gallop played to his strengths but he still ran the fastest closing sectional by 0.85s and earned a good overall speed rating.

This afternoon he races off an 11lbs higher mark but he will be suited by the strong gallop and is arguably better of turf. He has won on soft ground before and tasted success over further, at 40/1 (Betfred) he is a cracking bet.
