King George VI Betting Preview

Workforce A Class Act

Saturday’s racing highlight is a high-class renewal of the King George at Ascot, featuring Workforce and St. Nicholas Abbey.

An exciting King George is on the cards as the 2010 Epsom Derby winner takes on the horse that was antepost favourite for the race. We have gone through the field in betting order, giving you the lowdown on all the runners.

Workforce
Workforce: 7/4
A high-class Derby and Arc winner he looks as good as ever. Lost nothing in defeat at Sandown when going down by half a length to So You Think. The soft ground and extra two furlongs are ideal for the horse. The only concern is his quick reappearance. He ran a clunker in this race last year after his Derby exploits. Only 21 days since his last run, there is a danger he hasn’t fully recovered.

St Nocholas Abbey
St. Nicholas Abbey: 3/1
One time Derby favourite, he had a troublesome season last year. Looks closer to his smart juvenile form on his two wins this season. Triumphed in the Coronation Cup when struggling to handle the track. He showed his class to beat Midday but the form is weaker than Workforce has shown. Still has something to prove.

Rewilding
Rewilding: 10/3
Surprised a few people when defeating So You Think at Royal Ascot. He has now won over £2million in prize money, including taking Group Ones on his last two starts. Track and distance suit him but he was beaten 7.5 lengths by Workforce in the Derby. Has he closed the gap enough in the last year?

Nathaniel
Nathaniel: 15/2
Taking on his elders for the first time and it is a vintage crop of middle distance horses he has to face. His win at Royal Ascot and second place to Treasure Beach at Chester suggests he is amongst the best of his age group. The nagging feeling is that this year’s classic generation are not world beaters.

Debussy
Debussy: 150/1
Doesn’t stay the distance and shown nothing since moving to Godolphin. Employed as pacemaker in the race.
