July Cup Tip: Amico Fritz

July Cup

Desperately unlucky at Royal Ascot when drawn on the wrong wing. Won his side comfortably and underrated.

My analysis of the July Cup reads very much like the Golden Jubilee. Considering 9 of the 17 runners raced at Royal Ascot, it is an obvious place to start.

Three weeks ago I tipped Amico Fritz at 50/1 and i’m sticking with the same horse. The short of it is - the horse should have won at Ascot. For the first time all meeting the jockeys decided to race on the far side of the track. It was a logical choice considering the turf was less worn and the going stick suggested that side was quicker.

Unfortunately jockey Maxime Guyon made the wrong call and sent Amico Fritz towards the small stand’s side group. As soon as that happened his chances were over. Racing on the slowest part of the track, in a small group, was hopeless. Despite this he ran a cracker to finish a close 6th. To put it into context, he finished four lengths ahead on the next horse on the stand’s side. Watch the race to see how easily he wins his little battle under the stands.

18 June 2011 – Golden Jubilee @ Royal Ascot

Although not crucial to his chances, I’m pleased to see the rain arrive at Newmarket. A deluge on Thursday has already resulted in slow times, with further showers forecast. If the ground rides no faster than good, we will see the best of Amico Fritz.

Drawn in stall eleven there are no excuses this time. At 28/1 there is still a big win for the vastly underrated sprinter. Lets hope it is in the July Cup.

Amico Fritz is a best morning price of 20/1 with Bet365. At those odds he is still a recommended two point bet.
