Goodwood Tips: Toronado

Lost to Dawn Approach by a short-head at Royal Ascot but was forced to come from much further back.

Much as I like Declaration of War I can’t see him winning when having to concede 8lbs to the 3-year-olds. That leaves the 3.05 Goodwood as a rematch of the St James’s Palace Stakes, between Dawn Approach and Toronado.

Dawn Approach is favourite after his short-head win at Royal Ascot but I fancy Toronado to turn around the form. The race was run at only a moderate pace and Richard Hughes found himself in the wrong position, at the back of the pack turning for home.

Toronado was at least two lengths behind Dawn Approach when the race got serious and was unlucky to lose the race on a head-bob. If they’d started side by side, then surely Toronado would have prevailed.

The rematch is a mouth-watering prospect, but at the current prices Toronado is the play at 2/1 (Betfred).

*Toronado returned at an SP of 11/4, therefore we get paid the bigger price.
