The Best Ever?

The star of the flat season looks to maintain his 100% record in the QEII at Ascot. Can anyone stop him?

There is no doubt that Frankel has been the equine star of the flat season. His six-length romp in the 2,000 Guineas will live long in the memory. Looking for his ninth win in a row he faces some stiff competition in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Saturday. Here is our preview to the runners and riders.

Frankel 1/3 (Bet365)
Winning distance over 3.5 lengths is 13/8 (Ladbrokes)
It shows how good the horse is when the bookmakers are betting on the winning distance, in a Group One race worth £1million no less! He is the horse of a generation. If he is fit and healthy he wins. The price is prohibitive but he will have his supporters.

Excelebration 6/1 (Bet365)
Twice beaten by Frankel already this season, but he did get to within 2.25 lengths in the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot. Marco Botti’s horse has improved since then, putting in a career best to win a Group One at Longchamp in September. A big danger.

Immortal Verse 6/1 (Bet365)
If there is to be an upset Immortal Verse is the most likely cause. She has won her last two starts, including lowering the colours of wonder-mare Goldikova. Has a legitimate claim to being the best mileing filly in Europe.

Dick Turpin 25/1 (Boylesports)
At his best with ease in the ground and on a stiff track, he should have both at Ascot this weekend. He has put in career best efforts both times he has raced at the Berkshire course, so don’t be surprised to see a third good run. It might not be enough to win but he could run into a place.

Poet’s Voice 40/1 (Betfred)
Defending champion but has looked a shadow of that horse this season. Has struggled to make a mark in Group Two company and looks below his best.

Dubawi Gold 40/1 (Bet365)
Chased home Frankel in the Gunieas but struggled since to make his mark at the very top level. Finished three lengths behind Excelebration last time out and was unlucky not to get a bit closer. Form still not strong enough to win this race.

Side Glance 50/1 (Boylesports)
Has progressed well this season and finished fourth in a Group One in Canada a month ago. The firmer the ground the better. Not a complete no hoper.

Bullet Train 200/1 (Stan James)
Pacemaker for Frankel, no chance of winning.
