Duke Of York Stakes: Dalghar
Showed enough speed over 7f to be a successful sprinter. A repeat of his Ascot run last year is good enough to take this.
The first day highlight at York is the Group 2 sprint at 3.00. With the likes of Rose Blossom and Markab, the field should be taken along at a good pace. Traditionally it is quite hard to come from a long way behind at York as it is generally a speed favouring track. A stalking style ride, just behind the leaders is ideal and that is how I expect Dalghar to be ridden.
A French import to the Andrew Balding yard, he has shown tremendous speed in his racing to date. Tried over seven furlongs and a mile he has always shown bright speed without quite getting home. Dropped to six furlongs, he ran a cracker behind the very smart Lady Of The Desert in the Diadem Stakes at Ascot. The front two pulled well clear of a useful looking field that day. Dalghar has the ideal running style to be successful at York and the good to soft ground should be no inconvenience.
Maximum free bet of £50.
