Doncaster Tips: Tax Free

One of only two confirmed front-runners and in cracking form despite his advancing years.

Considering the Portland (3.00 Doncaster) is one of the signature sprint handicaps of the flat season it has a very bizarre look to it. Out of the 22 entrants, there are only two I would consider front-runners, Captain Dunne and Tax Free; the rest are confirmed hold-up horses.

Conveniently, the horses in question are drawn in stalls 1 and 4 respectively and that is where the race could unfold. Captain Dunne unfortunately has been well below his best this season but an excellent case can be made for Tax Free.

He finished 8th in the race last year running on well at the finish after being hampered. He finished runner-up in the Great St. Wilfrid last month, winning the race on his side, and followed that up with a fine win at York over 5f89y.

The ground has been drying all week at Doncaster so he should have the sound surface he enjoys. Considering the form he’s in it is scandalous that the bookies price him up at 25/1 (Bet365).
