Doncaster Tips: Silvanus

Performed well in a better grade and had excuses when running poorly. Looks well handicapped.

Threes Grand looks the horse to beat in the 5.15 Doncaster and I wouldn’t put anyone off backing her but at a bigger price I like the chances of Silvanus.

He started the season with a bang, running an absolute screamer to finish third at Epsom, one length behind Ajjaadd. On his next start at Chester a poor draw scuppered his chances but he bounced back to form at York finishing only 3-lengths behind Kingsgate Choice, now rated 109 and bordering on Group class.

There have been plenty of low points as well but they’ve often been accompanied by excuses. Defeats at Chester and Catterick were down to the draw, at Pontefract he chased too strong an early pace, at Musselburgh he had a slow start and most recently at Thirsk he was running over the wrong trip.

That is a lot of excuses but he is now 7lbs below his last winning mark and has not been running badly.

Paul Hanagan is an eye-catching booking having won 4 times and placed 4 times on the horse from only 13 starts and at 16/1 (Boylesports) he is a cracking bet.
