Doncaster Tips: Justineo

Ran a huge race in the King George Stakes; the only horse to feature in the finish after contesting a fierce early gallop.

The 3.00 Doncaster looks jam-packed full of pace but races don’t always turn out as expected. Jockeys on prominent runners will be aware of the dangers of duelling for the lead, so the breakneck gallop might not ensue.

The market has moved for Medicean Man in expectation of a strong gallop but I have my concerns with the horse. He was flattered by his win at Haydock early in the year, when there was a total pace collapse but he struggled in similar circumstance at Goodwood.

The first 3f of the King George Stakes were run incredibly quickly but Medicean Man was outpaced and never able to make up the ground. The horse that comes out with credit is Justineo.

He was the only horse in the top five positions to vie for the early lead; those around him all came from off the pace.

He’s been given a good break to get over his effort and he is an improving horse at the minimum distance. At 10/3 (Coral) he is the best bet.
