Doncaster Tips: Farlow

Ran a fine race when badly drawn on last visit to Doncaster. Bias in his favour today.

After a long winter, it is great to finally get stuck into a big turf handicap like the 1.20 Doncaster.

Despite there being 18-runners, we can quickly narrow down the field because of the draw bias. Since Doncaster completed it’s renovation work in 2008, horses drawn high on the straight track have enjoyed a considerable advantage over those drawn low.

Farlow grabbed my attention at the end of last season because he finished a close fifth from a terrible draw in stall 2. Today he is favourably drawn in stall 16 and should reverse the form with the likes of Thunderball and Ancient Cross.

During the winter, he moved to Richard Fahey, a fine trainer who has an excellent record in these big sprint handicaps. At 7/1 (William Hill) he looks the best bet in the race.
