Doncaster Tips: Dungannon

Record at 5f is 115, his only defeat attributable to a poor draw at Ascot.

Usually I wouldn’t be keen on backing a low draw in a Doncaster sprint, but with the pace drawn in the middle, I expect the pack to come up the centre as they did in Friday’s 6f contest.

Dungannon reverts to 5f for the 2.30 Doncaster and it should help him get his nose in front. His record over the minimum distance is 115 and I’m surprised he hasn’t raced more often at the trip. His one defeat came at Ascot during the summer, when he was beaten by the draw. Stall 22 was no use as the pack raced up the far side, but he still beat those around him quite comfortably.

His last race at York was full of promise considering it was his first start in over 2 months. Travelling notably well, he ran out of steam at the finish, probably a combination of the extra furlong and a lack of sharpness.

The soft ground should pose no problems and racing at his optimal trip he looks the value at 10/1 (Ladbrokes).
