Doncaster Tips: Seeking Magic

Has plenty of raw pace as seen when runner-up in the Epsom Dash but equally comfortable over 6f. Overpriced considering his consistency at this level.

If they were giving out prizes for effort, then Seeking Magic would be a worthy winner of the Portland (2.40 Doncaster).

In 25 career starts he has won or been placed 17 times, that is a tremendous effort given the big field sprints he usually contests.

Normally that record would make him one of the favourites but for some reason the bookmakers have priced him up at 22/1 (Skybet).

He’s been slightly unlucky this season but has still run well. He was hampered at Newmarket, beaten a head in the Epsom Dash, ran flat at Ascot and then was badly drawn in the Steward’s Cup. On all four occasions he was never beaten by more than 5.75 lengths.

The Portland is a slightly strange race because it is run over the intermediate sprint distance of 5f140yards but that should suit Seeking Magic who has a blend of speed and stamina.

He went very close in the Epsom Dash, which is the quickest 5f race in the country, so he isn’t short of speed but he’s also won over 6f so he will get the trip.

Potentially well drawn in stall 5 this looks the perfect race for Seeking Magic and he can go close at 22/1 (Skybet). Back him each-way with Skybet and get ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
