Doncaster Betting Guide

The flat season starts on Saturday with the traditional Lincoln meeting. We preview the big races at Doncaster.

2.40 Cammidge Trophy Cl1 6f
Sirius Prospect (9/4 William Hill) lived up to his name last season winning four on the bounce. If he continues on that upward curve he will be very difficult to beat.

If the favourite under-performs, Mayson (7/1 Boylesports) could capitalise. He finished only a quarter of a length behind Sirius Prospect on his last start.

Fratellino carries the best recent form into the race, after winning a 5f listed contest at Lingfield last weekend. Although he has never won at 6f, he has finished second over the distance and is slightly overpriced at 25/1 with Coral.
Selection: Sirius Prospect to win at 9/4 with William Hill

3.15 Lincoln Handicap Cl2 1m
Four-year-olds have a terrific record in the race, winning 6 of the last 10 renewals. Punters seem to have latched onto the fact with Fury (7/1 Blue Square) and Cocozza (9/1 Bet365) near the top of the betting. Neither looks that well handicapped and will need to improve on last year’s performances.

Eton Forever and Edinburgh Knight look weighted to the hilt, with the latter still to prove he gets a strongly run mile. This opens up opportunities for horses at bigger odds.

Any Dandy Nicholls runner in a valuable handicap deserves a second look and he has a good chance with Don’t Call Me at 20/1 (Bet365). He is a horse who has difficulty with his breathing and needs to run with a tongue-strap to be seen at his best. When he does, and races at a mile or shorter on ground no faster than good his record is: 11161.
Selection: Don’t Call Me each-way (5 places) at 20/1 with Bet365
