British Champion Sprint Stake Tips: Intibaah

Has won three times on soft ground including when a spectacular winner over course and distance last October. Possibly needed his last run after a 218-day absence.

The 2.20 Ascot is a good quality sprint complicated by the going. G Force is the best horse in the field, he won the Sprint Cup on merit but heavy ground is an unknown and he is drawn wide in stall 1.

David O’Meara’s star sprinter makes the staking plan but only as a saver; our main selection is a proven mud-lark Intibaah.

His record on soft ground is 12118 and he was a wide margin winner over course and distance last October, when his 2.25 length victory didn’t do his performance justice.

He covered the final 2f in 24.8s, an amazing time on soft ground. To put that into context Baccarat covered the final 2f of the Wokingham in 24.7s on much quicker ground, although it came after chasing a stronger pace.

The problem with Intibaah is he ran a stinker at the track a fortnight ago. Something must have gone amiss during the summer because that was his first start in 218 days.

Brian Meehan’s horses often improve for the run, so perhaps Intibaah was undercooked and this is his main target. At 33/1 (Boylesports) he is worth the risk.
