Ayr Silver Cup Tip: Bertiewhittle

Won two of his last three and is drawn near the pace in stall four.

For a consolation race, £22,000 to the winner of the Ayr Silver Cup will assuage any disappointment of missing the cut for the Gold Cup. Norton Common Farm racing know how that feels after they won the race with Colonel Mak last year. With Bertiewhittle, they could win again.

Like his predecessor, Bertiewhittle is only a three-year-old but has shown plenty of talent already. A winner in two of his last three starts, he achieved a career best when winning a hot Newmarket handicap at the start of August. He achieved that win despite suffering interference inside the last furlong. When the gap eventually came he flew past his rivals to win by an increasing length.

With the early pace horses such as Parisian Pyramid, Nasri and Joseph Henry all drawn low, a starting stall of four looks favourable. Off a mark of 90 Bertiewhittle still looks well handicapped considering his progressive profile. Back him a best odds of 10/1 with Bet365 and get a £200 free bet.
