Ayr Races Tip: Duchess Dora

Acquitted herself well when sent off second favourite in a hot sprint handicap. This is much easier.

The 3.15 at Ayr is a hot sprint and should produce reliable form. With speedballs like Strike Up The Band, Le Toreador and Mayoman all drawn close to the stand’s rail the race should be set up for a closer.

One of the few horses in the race capable of winning from off the pace is Duchess Dora. A useful three year old she hasn’t had the opportunity to shine yet this year. Two moderate draws in a row have scuppered her chances but on a fairer track there will be no excuses.

Clearly it isn’t just me who rates this horse highly. The betting public saw fit to send her off 6/1 second favourite in a hot York handicap. That was in a 0-105 race and she did well to finish within three lengths of the winner. Today she races in a 0-90 handicap and is 4/1 despite there being eight fewer runners and it being a lower grade. The odds do not add up. She did not run badly last time and looks a very fair price.
