Ayr Tips: Court Minstrel

Enjoyed a productive novice campaign, running well in graded races. Will enjoy the better ground.

The majority of the field in the 2.40 Ayr look exposed and with Grumeti giving his rivals plenty of weight on his first start for 329 days, there are only a handful of realistic contenders.

Court Minstrel has enjoyed an excellent novice campaign and he shouldn’t be overawed by the opposition.

He was unlucky to finish third in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham back in November when hampered during the run-in. With a clear run there is a good chance he would have beaten the useful Dodging Bullets.

In the Grade 1 Tolworth he found Melodic Rendezvous too strong on ground that wouldn’t have suited him but he bounced back to form by winning the Sussex Champion Hurdle in better conditions last month.

Court Minstrel strikes me as one of the better novices this season and he should be capable of running to a mark in the low 150s. That will be good enough to win this race and he looks the best bet at 4/1 (Betfred).
