Ascot Tips: Secret Witness
Improving with age, his recent performances have been career bests.
The 5.05 Ascot is a tough sprint to decipher, but Secret Witness looks overpriced considering his great form.
Like many sprinters, he is a horse who has flourished with age. Since November 2011 he has been awarded a Racing Post Rating in the 100s, seven times, a mark he achieved only once in his previous 47 starts.
This run of consistency has seen him punished by the handicapper and he tops the weights in today’s race. However he is the sort of horse who can cope with big weights, as he finished a close second at York nine days ago carrying 9st-12lb.
In this big field he should get the strong pace he craves and the 14/1 (William Hill) is simply too big for a horse at the top of his game.
