Ascot Tips: Raya Star

Looks much improved this season and impressive when only ten lengths behind Rock On Ruby last time out.

The Ladbroke Hurdle (3.35 Ascot) is the sort of race a progressive horse wins. With almost £85,000 to the winner it is also a competitive race, where several horses could be ahead of the handicapper. Prospect Wells, Brampour, Abergavenny and Raya Star all fall into this category, and it is the last one that interests me the most.

Raya Star ran into a class act at Newbury last time out when finishing ten lengths behind Rock On Ruby - now sixth in the betting for the Champion Hurdle. That form might not get franked until March, but it certainly looks strong at the moment.

Raya Star also put in an eye-catching run on his seasonal appearance, winning a good handicap at Wetherby in comfortable fashion. His speed ratings suggest this horse is making rapid progress this season, his performances improving with each run. Rated only 132 the handicapper might not have got to him yet.
