Ascot Tips: Lyvius

Beat the useful Edgardo Sol on his last start, looks progressive and handles soft ground.

There are several horses who could run above their handicap marks in the 3.10 Ascot but the horse with the most potential is Lyvius.

The German import has won three of his five hurdle starts to date and still only 4-years-old, there is plenty of improvement left in him.

On his seasonal debut he defeated the useful Edgardo Sol at Newbury and although he was getting plenty of weight from his 144 rated rival, you’d fancy he would have won by a bigger margin if he hadn’t idled when hitting the front. After the race Barry Geraghty said he’d be better with a stronger pace, and that is exactly what he will get in the Ladbroke Hurdle this afternoon.

A winner on soft ground at Newbury as well as scoring on heavy in Germany, testing conditions at Ascot should pose no problem. Racing off a mark of 135 he’s probably at least 10lbs ahead of the handicapper and with conditions to suit he is the value bet at 10/1 (Bet365).
