Ascot Tips: Kingsgate Native

Hugely talented individual and his new trainer looks capable of getting the best out of him.

The 4.10 Ascot is a fascinating race that sees sprint handicappers attempting to step up in grade pitted against Group class sprinters trying to recapture their form. I’ve decided to go with the latter and bank on a revitalised Kingsgate Native.

A two-time Group 1 winner, not much has gone right in his career recently. There was an aborted trip to stud, followed by a disappointing 2011 campaign with Sir Michael Stoute. He’s moved yards again this season, but Robert Cowell might just find the key to him. The Newmarket trainer is developing a niche with older sprinters; his most impressive work was managing to turn the recalcitrant Prohibit into a Group 1 winner.

He faces a similar task with Kingsgate Native, but his last run was extremely encouraging. He finished second in a Group 3 race at Newbury despite suffering interference in the last 100 yards.

Robert Cowell might be on the verge of unlocking Kingsgate Native’s undoubted potential – if he can, then he should win at 10/3 with BetVictor.
