Ascot Tips: Compton

Has slipped to an attractive handicap mark and Ascot brings the best out in him. Potentially well drawn against the stand’s rail.

With 29-runners going to post for the 3.15 Ascot there is almost certainly going to be a split in the field. It’s hard to predict which side is going to enjoy an advantage but the GoingStick suggests the ground will be quicker on the stand’s side (8.6 vs 8.4 on far side) therefore I’m sticking with high numbers.

Drawn in stall 28, Compton will be racing up the stand’s rail, hopefully enjoying a good tow from Galician in stall 29.

At the start of the year I had high hopes for the 4-year-old, I even backed him for the Wokingham but he failed to get into the race. He’s on somewhat of a recovery mission but if there is anywhere that can spark him into life then it is Ascot.

Compton Racing Post Ratings at Ascot: 96-99-10.

For whatever reason the Berkshire course seems to bring out the best in Compton, in three starts he’s never finished outside the top-4. His RPRs are also impressive, having never dipped below 96 at the track.

Racing off a mark of 88 he looks extremely well-handicapped especially if Ascot brings the best out of him again. At 33/1 he is a lively each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
