Ascot Tips: Barney McGrew

Well drawn and looks ready to capitalise on a sliding handicap mark.

Barney McGrew hasn’t won for two years but he’s slipped to a mark where he should be competitive again. The 6.30 York is a class 4 contest, a level at which he has finished in the top-3, six times in ten starts.

Unusually for a sprint at York, the stalls are positioned on the far side, this means low numbers can race against the far side rail, often an advantage. Barney McGrew is well drawn in stall 2 and he has the ability to dominate this calibre of opposition. At 10/1 (Blue Square) he is the value in the race.
