Ascot Tips: Arctic Lynx

Stiff track should suit this strong finisher. Ideal jockey onboard for this sometimes-tricky customer.

Arctic Lynx is having his third try at 5f in the 5.15 Ascot and the minimum distance might just be the making of him.

Two starts ago he finished second to the in-form Dancing Freddy; he started his finishing run a fraction too late but would have won in a couple more strides. The stiff track at Ascot should therefore play to his strengths by slowing down the leaders at the finish.

Five second places in 19 starts, suggests he can be a tricky customer, and he often finds trouble in-running. However, I am encouraged to see Stephen Craine take the reins for the first time. I’ve been impressed by his ability to coax difficult horses to victory; he is one of the few jockeys to get a win out of the perennial dodge-pot Bookiesindex Boy for example.

A combination of track and jockey could be the key to Arctic Lynx and he looks good value at 9/1 with Paddy Power.
