Ascot Tip: Ivory Silk

Street Power - Winner in 2009

Much improved since being raced more prominently. Ideally drawn to attack again.

Jeremy Gask is looking to win the 4.00 at Ascot for the second time in three years and he has an excellent chance with Ivory Silk.

Like so many mares, her form can be very in and out. After a 2010 in the doldrums, she is sparkling this season. An impressive win last time out was her third of the year, part of a string of consistent performances. Her results in 2011 are: 721122431.

Some pundits put her win down to the application of blinkers but I do not agree - she has won without them in the past. The change has been more subtle. It is a combination of jockey and tactics. Her win at Newmarket was the best performance of her career; it was also the first time she was ridden prominently. Talented Australian jockey Claire Lindop can take credit for that.

Adam Kirby takes over the ride today but that is by no means a negative. His record on Ivory Silk is: 113 and overall his strike rate is an impressive 32% for Jeremy Gask.

With the stalls against the stand’s rail, a high draw in stall 19 is ideal. If connections adopt the same positive tactics, Ivory Silk could set another personal best.
