Ascot Tips: Saloomy

Progressive last season and one of the few prominent runners in a race which lacks pace.

Considering 25 runners line up for the 4.25 Ascot there is a curious lack of pace. The only semblance of early speed is drawn high and that should suit Saloomy who is drawn in stall 22 and likes to race handily.

A lightly raced colt, having only his seventh start, he has bags of potential. Towards the end of last year he seemed to be getting his act together, winning a decent handicap at Kempton beating polytrack specialist Intransigent by a length.

He rounded off his campaign with defeat at Yarmouth but he raced too freely and ran into the useful Signor Sassi. He was only beaten by 0.75 lengths and was well clear of the horse in third.

I suspect there is more to come and if fully tuned up on his first start in 233-days he could run a good race at 14/1 (Stan James)
