Ascot Races Tip: Edinburgh Knight

Made big strides on the all weather and looks primed to win one of these big sprint handicaps.

In the 5.10 at Ascot I’m recommending a horse I’ve been keen on all year, Edinburgh Knight. A rapid improver on the all weather this winter, I tipped him to win a big handicap at the Guineas meeting only for him to be pulled out on account of the going.

Everything written that day still applies. A hold up horse, he will love the end to end gallop generated by this big field. After his last win at Lingfield he was put away specifically for a turf campaign where the prize money is much better. Racing off a mark of 89 makes him well handicapped on my ratings, he is capable of being a high 90s horse eventually.

In such a big field it is worth looking out for a few unexposed horses who might give us some valuable information for later in the season. Crown Choice ran a good race at Pontefract and should be staying on best of anyone, although there are still question marks over whether he has the speed for six furlongs. Dungannon and Deacon Blues finished their three-year-old careers with promise and it will be interesting to see if they have progressed over the winter. If they have, then expect to see them in all the big sprint handicaps this summer.
