Ascot QE II Tip: Dick Turpin

Only needs to finish in the top three and the odds on Frankel creates the each way value.

With Frankel heavily odds-on there is plenty of each way thievery to be done on the outsiders. Remember with eight runners a top three finish pays out. If we assume Frankel must finish in the top three then we have seven horses fighting for two places.

Over looked in the market at 33/1 is Dick Turpin. He is a Group One winner and produces his best performances on stiff tracks like Ascot. His run in the St. James’ Palace last year showing the level he can reach.

The be at his best, he also needs to avoid firm ground. If you look at his record over a mile, when racing on ground good or slower his record is: 2211171. The one poor performance was at Deauville, but on a sharp track he lacks the turn of foot to be fully competitive.

As Richard Hannon states he probably won’t beat Frankel but 33/1 (Victor Chandler) is an insult to this horse, especially as we get ¼ odds for a top three finish.
