Wyndham Championship Golf Tips: Chris Couch

Chris Couch

Always quick out of the blocks and could prove hard to peg back on an easy course.

Last year Arjun Atwal led the tournament from start to finish and I’ve gone for another fast starter in Chris Couch. He leads the PGA Tour for scoring average before the cut. No surprise when you see he has opened with two scores in the 60s in almost half of the tournaments he has played this year.

It tends to be the weekend where the problems begin; his best Sunday round is a 70. From a betting perspective, he is a great player to trade in running.

This week I’m going to be bold and stick with him for all four rounds. This is the easiest course he will play all year and when it comes to making birdies there aren’t many better.  He ranks 9th on tour for birdie average.

A winner on tour in 2006, the 38-year-old American has struggled with shoulder injury, missing most of 2008 and 2009 after surgery. There are signs that the problem is becoming manageable though; 2011 has yielded three top tens and 15/16 cuts made.

Importantly Couch arrives in Greensboro fresh from a three week break and a T11 in his last outing shows that the form was there. At a big price, back him each way at ¼ the odds for a top 5 finish.
