Mickelson starts as favourite.

McIllroy returns as defending champion but faces a competitive field in North Carolina. Mickelson is favourite.

Rory McIlroy returns to defend his title in North Carolina this week having moved up to sixth in the world rankings without even striking a ball last week. The 21-year-old from County Down triumphed in 2010 with an astonishing final round 62 to win what was then known as the Quail Hollow Championship. He is 14/1 with Coral to win the Wells Fargo Championship. Bubba Watson has also pushed his way into the world’s top ten courtesy of his play-off win at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans last weekend. The big-hitting left-hander is still available at 28/1 with totesport.

In a strong field Phil Mickleson will tee-off as favourite at 12/1 with Coral. World number two Martin Kaymer is available at 18/1 with Justin Rose part of the British challenge at 45/1 with Boylesports. Tiger Woods has withdrawn with minor ligament and tendon injuries.
