Texas Open Tips: Hudson Swafford

Fought back after a terrible start last year to play the final three rounds in two-under and finish T35.

The Texas Open is played on one of the toughest non-major courses on the PGA Tour, throw in some inclement weather and we have the ingredients for an upset.

It’s therefore worth adding a complete outsider to the staking plan and Hudson Swafford fits the bill.

The 28-year-old is one of the best drivers on tour (7th in total driving) and is 31st in ball-striking, unfortunately he is prone to the odd disaster.

Last season he opened the Texas Open with a round of 79, which included a double and a triple bogey however he fought back brilliantly, playing the final three rounds in 2-under to finish T35.

It was a similar story last week, when he was 8-over after nine holes but played the final 27 in 1-under.

Swafford cannot afford a slow start again but it shows that 75% of his game is there. If he can cut out the errors then he is capable of going well at 250/1 (Coral).
