US Open Tips: Charley Hoffman

Price too big for a player ranked fifth in the PGA Tour’s ‘all-around ranking’. Has four top-10s this season.

With five top-20 finishes in his last eight tournaments, Charley Hoffman arrives at Merion with his golf in rude health. He won last week’s qualifying event in Ohio and will tee it up for a third time at the US Open.

Finishes of T48-T45 in previous US Opens makes for respectable reading but he is a much better player nowadays. Hoffman is currently ranked fifth in the PGA Tour’s ‘all-around ranking’, a measure of a player’s all-round game.

The big problem for Hoffman is capitalising on his good play. He is a two-time winner on tour but often fades out of contention on Sunday. However, at 200/1 (William Hill) he is worth the risk, with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
