US Open Golf Tips: Tony Finau

Won on a similar layout at TPC Stonebrae and has four consecutive top-20 finishes on tour.

Tony Finau makes his major debut at the US Open and this could be the moment he impresses his talent on the wider public.

Regular readers of this column will notice we’ve been banging on about Finau for almost a year now.

The 25-year-old is one of the biggest hitters on tour (third in driving distance) but his touch around the greens means he is more than just a bomber.

It’s almost a year ago since he won his first title, the Stonebrae Classic on the Web.com Tour and TPC Stonebrae is not dissimilar to Chambers Bay.

TPC Stonebrae is an undulating links course situated near San Francisco Bay and was designed by renowned Scottish golf course architect David McLay Kidd. Chambers Bay as the name suggests is also situated on a bay and has a ‘Scottish links’ feel to it.

After a mid-season lull, Finau is firing on all cylinders. He has finished T16-T19-T10-T8 in his last four starts and can emulate Keegan Bradley by winning on his major debut.

At 200/1 (Paddy Power) he is a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odd for a top-6 finish.
