US Open Tip: Jason Dufner

Dufner A Solid Ball Striker

Sits 25th in the FedEx Cup standings and is having a marvellous season. His triple figures odds do not reflect this.

I’m continuing the theme of unexpected major winners with my final selection – Jason Dufner. At odds of 150/1 he looks like a complete outsider but closer inspection of his form shows this to be all wrong.

Lying 25th in the FedEx Cup, he has five top 25s this season. Yet to visit the winner’s enclosure, he has got close, only missing out in a playoff for the Phoenix Open. His form coming into the US Open is also excellent. In his last four tournaments he has finished T8-MC-T6-T3. That missed cut came about because of a poor second round 76, one of only three rounds he has shot over par since March!

His stats also show he has the game to cope with Congressional. He ranks 13th for sand saves and 28th for scrambling, elements of his game that will be tested when he inevitably misses a GIR.

At 150/1 he is worth an each way investment with bookmakers paying out on a top six finish.
