US Open First Round Leader Tips: Josh Teater
Big hitter who could capitalise on the soft conditions. Sat T7-T3 after the opening round of his last two tournaments.
Sticking with players featured in our US Open trends feature, Josh Teater looks decent value to be leading after the first round.
The 34-year-old has the all-round game for Merion, and if the course is soggy, he has the length off the tee to take advantage of receptive fairways.
In recent weeks, Teater has made fast starts to his tournaments. At Colonial he was T7 after the opening round and at the Memorial his opening 67 was good enough for a share of third place.
Ranked 24th on tour for scoring before the cut, it’s usually at the weekend when the problems begin, but we need not worry about that. At 200/1 (Betfred), back Teater each-way to be the first round leader and get ¼ odds if he finishes in the top-5.
