The Greenbrier Classic Golf Tips: Webb Simpson

Finished in the top-25 in his last five tournaments which includes two majors. Will win sooner rather than later.

The PGA Tour visits West Virginia for The Greenbrier Classic this week. Last year Stuart Appleby shot a fourth round 59 on the way to victory but things are different now. Modifications have been made to 16 holes and the greens reseeded with Bentgrass. The result - scoring will be more difficult. Birdies will still be achievable but the all round game will be tested more severely than the 2010 edition.

Ranked fifth on tour for birdie average and first in the all-around ranking Webb Simpson has the stats to win. The 25 year-old from Raleigh is having an excellent season lying 9th in the FedEx Cup standings. With two second places already this season it is only a matter of time before he makes the breakthrough.

Since the Players Championship Simpson has been on a fantastic run with finishes of:  T7-T14-T13-T8-T16, which includes visits to the US and British Opens.

Blessed with a terrific touch around the greens, he is one of the new breed of American golfers gaining prominence this season. Having hardly played a bad tournament all year he looks a rock solid bet in a market where the favourites look vulnerable.

Back him each way for 1/4 odds for a top five finish.
