Greenbrier Classic Golf Tips: Brian Harman

Enjoyed a glittering amateur career and a T11 last week suggests he could be about to make his mark as a pro.

When researching my golf bets, I am always looking for a player about to turn a corner. Just a small glimmer is enough to attract my attention, and that is what Brian Harman did at last week’s AT&T National.

A closing round of 67 was the joint best on Sunday, only matched by Adam Scott. It was enough to propel the 25-year-old to T11, his best finish of the year.

In his first season on the PGA Tour he might seem a relative unknown but great things were always expected after a stellar amateur career. Harman won the 2003 US Junior Amateur and the 2005 Players Amateur titles that the likes of Tiger Woods, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler all held during their early years.

In 20 starts this year, Harman has six top-25 finishes, a good return for a player finding his feet on tour. However, at Congressional his play hinted at even better things. Five-over after four holes on Thursday, he could have chucked in the towel. Instead, he showed great application to play his remaining 68 holes in six-under. That would have been good enough for a second-place finish, had the poor start only been avoided.

At 150/1 (Ladbrokes) we are getting huge odds for a player that could be on the cusp of something special. Back him each-way and get ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
