Puerto Rico Open Tips 2013: Brian Stuard

Ranked 8th on tour for adjusted scoring average, yet his good form is ignored by the bookies.

The betting for the Puerto Rico Open has an unusual look to it. In a field of relatively unheralded golfers, the bookmakers still have the most recognisable names at the head of the market.

The likes of Jeff Overton, Brendon De Jonge and Kevin Stadler might not be household names, but they are familiar to regular viewers of the PGA Tour. Unfortunately, between them they have 0 wins from 514 starts and at 28/1 or lower they are poor bets.

Statistically the best golfer in the field is Brian Stuard but he finds himself 34th in the betting at 80/1 (Coral).

The 30-year-old has made 5/5 cuts this season and has finished no worse than T39. He currently lies 8th on the PGA Tour for adjusted scoring average, one of the most reliable metrics used on tour.

His adjusted scoring average of 69.578 would have placed him between Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson last year and although it is still early in the season that level of form needs to be respected.

It is scandalous that he is 80/1 (Coral). He is therefore a must each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
