Puerto Rico Open Trends

Whilst the big names contest the WGC-Cadillac Championship, the lesser lights have a chance to shine in Puerto Rico. We look at the trends of past winners.

The Trump International Golf Club hosts the Puerto Rico Open for a seventh year as the PGA Tour continues to push into new territories. Typical of a resort golf course, this par-72 sits mid-table for difficulty; in 2011 it ranked 32/51 hardest on tour.

With a weakened field, don’t be surprised to see unusual names on the leaderboard. Veteran ball strikers have performed well at the event with Greg Kraft and Michael Bradley both winning the tournament in their forties.

Top-20 in previous year
The only thread joining five of the last six winners is that they all finished in the top-20 the year before their triumph.

This trend goes all the way back to 2009, when Michael Bradley won the event. Last year’s winner Chesson Hadley is the outlier, winning on his course debut.

Players that fit the trend:

Chesson Hadley 35/1 Betfred
