Puerto Rico Open Tips: Matt Jones

Makes plenty of birdies and finished in the top-15 on his last two visits to Puerto Rico.

Before the Honda Classic, I touted Matt Jones as one of the best players on tour yet to win and a missed cut doesn’t change my opinion.

The 33-year-old failed to make the weekend at PGA National by one stroke but I was encouraged by his second round 68, which almost undid Thursday’s damage.

The young Australian finished 37th in last year’s FedEx Cup and already has a couple of top-15 finishes to his name in 2014. His best finishes came at the Humana Challenge and the Phoenix Open, both tournaments regarded as birdie-fests.

Jones will need to go low to win in Puerto Rico but he is certainly capable; he’s finished T5-T14 on his last two visits and is a good each-way bet at 22/1 (Coral)
