Italian Open Golf Tips: David Horsey

Finished T23-2 on his last two starts at the course and the signs are that his game is coming together after a lean year.

After winning a tournament in each of the last two years, 2012 has been a bit of a struggle for David Horsey. A switch to Callaway clubs coupled with swing changes sees him languishing in 138th position in the Race to Dubai.

This poor run of form has seen his price drift to 125/1 (Skybet) but there are signs that he is about to turn the corner. At the European Masters he hit 17/18 GIRs in round one but couldn’t take the opportunities as he weighed in with 35 putts. He later remarked on Twitter that he’s always struggled to read the greens at Crans-sur-Sierre.

The 27-year-old never got going at the KLM Open last week despite his short game keeping him in contention. A return to Italy could just be the catalyst he needs to bring all facets of his game together. In his two visits to the Royal Park I Roveri course, he’s finished T23-2, missing out on victory in 2010 by just two shots.

Horsey has a habit of playing well at courses he’s enjoyed good results at before. His highest finish of the season was a 14th in Morocco in the defence of his Trophee Hassan II title. At 125/1 (Skybet) he looks good each-way value with 1/4 odds for a top-5 finish.
